Work on Dundee’s waterfront V&A design museum is to get underway next month after BAM Construction were awarded the contract to build the £80.1m centre by Dundee City Council.
The final go-ahead comes despite a near doubling of the estimated budget of the build from £45m, blamed by the contractor on inflation within the construction industry and an underestimate of the expense incurred in delivering the specified shell and cladding.
Doug Keillor, regional director of BAM Construction in Scotland, commented: “This is the most unique construction project that my team have ever been involved in, both in architectural vision and in the way it will be built. It’s challenging, but in a good way. Watching it take shape over the next few years using a combination of local, national and international expertise, will be very satisfying.”
The waterside venue will open its doors to the public in June 2018
