Unfortunately, I believe that Abbot, Quest and Labcorp, provide an indication that this will likely be a rough quarter for BCART. The major MDx testing labs are indicating that tests other than COVID19 are down as people delay colonoscopies, lumpectomies etc. during the pandemic. The good news is that these procedures cannot be delayed indefinitely. I'm primarily looking for the following information that might provide insights into the future:
The placement of new consoles. Are labs and testing facilities adopting Idylla as a means to streamline workflow to save manpower for COVID testing. If so, where is it being adopted and in what numbers.
Updates on OncoType Dx validation, is it progressing and on what timeline.
Status of MSI and KRAS/NRAS FDA registrations in US, China & Japan.
Cartridge usage numbers and location of the uptake users.
Update on the Septicyte launch in the EU. Have they gauged demand from hospitals. We will hear about the US later this quarter from Immunexpress.
What facet of company operations are proceeding normally and which are shut down during the pandemic. Since they are still anticipating an physical Annual Shareholder meeting, I suspect that most operations (i.e., R&D and marketing) are still progressing w social distancing. We know manufacturing is still ongoing. So I think they are better off than a lot of companies.
Announcement of a new CFO?
The biggest theme to evaluate is whether the pandemic might actually act as a agent to accelerate Idylla adoption as labs, hospitals etc. look for more automated and efficient testing procedures to free up manpower.
I oscillate between the pandemic totally drying up demand for cartridges and it acting as an accelerant for adoption of Idylla. I have to believe that as economies reopen and medical procedures start being conducted again, an automated MDx system that is conducive to social distancing will fill an important niche. I just think this quarter is too early to see clear evidence of this.
