SHELL expects to sign a lease agreement with SBM before the end of June for three to five years with options for a converted floating production, storage and offloading vessel to develop the Stones oilfield located beneath 2900 metres water depth in the Lower Tertiary Paleogene play in the Gulf of Mexico.
SBM has already procured a 274-metre by 48-metre, 160,000 deadweight-tonne oil tanker for conversion in an Asian yard and has just issued invitations to tender for fabrication of the topsides modules.
Subsea systems, oil export shuttle tanker and infrastructure will be awarded over the next coming months, a Shell spokeswoman said.
“Contracts have already been awarded for the line pipe-induction bends, riser long forgings, subsea hardware-distribution system, multi-phase flow meters, and the pipeline-flowline-riser installation,” she said.
