HERE & TomTom Offer Automated Driving Maps for Tests in the U.S.

This week digital map vendors HERE and TomTom have both announced they have been mapping in high precision well defined areas of the United States to participate in tests of automated driving vehicles.
TomTom is offering a high definition map near Detroit, Michigan, that is covering the stretch of road network between Farmington Hills and Ann Arbor, including I-696, 96, and 275, US-23 and M-14. It will be available in June.
TomTom already provided high precision maps to the self-driving Audi A7 which went 560 miles from San Francisco to Las Vegas last January (read here).
Pilot project in Virginia with Here
Here, the mapping and navigation subsidiary of Nokia, has partnered with Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, the Virginia Department of Transportation, Transurban in a project called the Virginia Automated Corridors. The project covers more than 70 miles of highways, arterial roads and urban streets.
These roads have been specially selected “to provide a range of driving and traffic conditions that represent the variety that can be found across the United States,“ Here explained.
