Earlier this year PSA launched two tenders related to AGVs: one for an undisclosed number of AGVs; and a separate tender as a nominated sub contract for Lithium battery systems for the AGVs.
WorldCargo News has learned that the tenders cover up to 180 machines, split into two separate orders. This would suggest that PSA is looking for two different suppliers.
In a related development, and as reported in the November issue of WorldCargo News, Gaussin Manugistique has granted an exclusive license to Singapore’s ST Engineering to manufacture and market the Gaussin “AGV Full ELEC Performance” vehicle in Singapore. ST Kinetics is the land systems arm of Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd, one of Asia’s leading defence and engineering companies.
The arrangement with Gaussin includes an initial fee, plus royalties on sales for 20 years. In return ST Kinetics receives the rights to “manufacture, promote, distribute and market the high-speed AGV Full ELEC Performance in Singapore. ST Kinetics has a joint venture company in China, Beijing Zhonghuan Kinetics Heavy Vehicles Co. Ltd, where it builds industrial vehicles, including a terminal tractor for the Chinese market.
PSA has been testing several AGVs at its “living lab” at Pasir Panjang for some months now. This includes two Gaussin “AGV Performance Full ELEC” machines with “ultra-fast charging”. The machines and three power packs were delivered in March this year and Gaussin said it received a “final certificate of completion from the PSA”.
Other AGVs tested in Singapore include machines from VDL, ZPMC, Toyota, Kalmar & ST Kinetics and ZPMC. PSA separately contracted a navigation system from Kalmar that had to be “compatible with any brand” of AGV.
