Dear ,
The Chinese group has been making rhlactoferrin producing cows for a long time now (more than 10 years) and we knew them back in the days.
rhLactoferrin was also produced by Herman the Bull’s off-spring and was back in the 1990’s thought to be commercially attractive. We have until 2012 attempted to find ways to commercialise rhlactoferrin with parties in China and Turkey where improved milk product where deemed of interest, but this never came to anything.
Pharming has therefore terminated the programme in 2012.
Patents covering the transgenic technology have in the meanwhile also run out…
So the Chinese are legally ok to make cows and rhlactoferrin.
More importantly; there is however a whole trajectory between having a transgenic cow (or a rabbit) and getting a GMP manufactured medicine in hand; that is the Pharming Black Box, that has trade secrets and know- how, which is of course, contrary to a patent, not in the public domain, and will not expire.
So companies can produce transgenic animals, which in the case of rabbit, but especially in the case of cows, is not trivial take many years and many rabbit or cows when you start from the beginning.
By the way, with regards to our rhC1INH cows; as soon as we have the product in hands we will be patenting the bovine rhC1INH that will be produced by our new cows.
Trust this information is useful,
Kind regards
