GAUSSIN Manugistique (EURONEXT GROWTH FR0010342329) announces its appointment by the Road Transport Authority (RTA), the Dubai Road Transport Authority, as a finalist of the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transportation, a global competition for the autonomous transport of people. The final phase of the competition will take place in Dubai in September 2019 and the winner will win the exclusive right to operate in Dubai and a prize of US $ 3 million.
Development of smart cities - "smart cities"
For a number of years, we have seen a strong development of Smart City smart cities projects, which constitute the future of urban planning and which now concentrate the bulk of innovation on mobility. Indeed, mobility as we know it facilitates travel and is a determining factor in what makes a city livable.
Urbanization is expected to accelerate over the next decade with an urban population that will account for 70% of the world's population by 2050. It is therefore necessary, based on this unprecedented speed of growth, to establish, from as early as present, innovative solutions.
Today's cities face major challenges to develop mobility, such as pollution, security, congestion and accessibility.
Population growth will result in many traffic jams, longer travel times, and increased transportation costs and pollution.
The concept of a traditional city will have to be abandoned to become a smart city in which connectivity and mobility considerations occupy a prominent place with autonomous vehicles as a key factor in making this transition.
Recent reports show that autonomous technologies have the capacity to reduce by one third the duration of urban travel and two-thirds greenhouse gas emissions. The need for parking spaces would decrease by more than 40%.
Gaussin finalist among 65 participants of the global contest on autonomous transportation
The Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport is a catalyst for realizing the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, to achieve that 25% of all travel to Dubai are made via intelligent and unmanned transportation solutions by 2030.
The first and last kilometer connection strategies are the first use case. The application and evaluation process began in 2018 and will continue until the World Autonomous Transport Congress, which will take place on 15 and 16 October 2019 in Dubai.
Organized by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the Challenge is a multi-year international competition designed for industry leaders (Leaders), start-ups and universities working on transportation issues facing the cities of the world. It is the most prestigious global competition with a global dimension in its perspectives and not limited by country or region.
The first use case involves the transportation of people in the first / last kilometer connection of public transport, from car parks to sites and within communities to connect origins / destinations to public transport, off-site parking at entrances to sites and for transporting people around a specific place.
