Positive launch updates for Insmed’s Iplex from the Endocrinology Society meeting

We estimate that 30-40 patients could be on Iplex. Our industry contacts with whom we spoke over the weekend at the ENDO conference indicate that 30-40 (possibly more) children could have been prescribed Iplex therapy since its launch on May 25th. If this estimate is accurate, Iplex’s launch is proceeding well, in our view, as the drug was launched less than a month ago and its first month of revenues could exceed the first quarter of revenues for ercica's Increlex. As a reminder, we previously expected a mid-2006 launch for Iplex, so we had not factored any patients on Iplex during June.

The number of patients on Iplex is promising considering Tercica’s four-plus-month head start of competition-free access to ped/endos. Recall that on its 1Q06 conference call on May 9th, Tercica reported 90 patients on therapy, most of whom (we speculate) were prescribed therapy late in the quarter, likely in April/May when Iplex was not on the market. The number of patients receiving Iplex so far is consistent with our thesis that while the launch of Iplex and Increlex may continue at a slow but steady pace early on, over time, once-daily Iplex will become the preferred choice among patients' families. In conversations with pediatric endocrinologists last week heading into this weekend’s conference, Iplex’s freezer storage had not been an impediment, and we understand that 100% of patients on Iplex have been reimbursed.

Over the weekend, long-term stability data demonstrating Increlex’s stability for at least 12 months at 2-8 degrees Celsius, with an extrapolated shelf-life of >2 years, were presented at the poster sessions. This morning, Tercica announced that cumulative Increlex prescriptions more than doubled (from 61 to 151) as compared to the end of the first three months of the year. This was in line with our expectation of 160 patients being treated with Increlex by the end of June. The company also reported three incidences of hypoglycemia (two mild and one serious), all of which resolved and the patients eventually resumed treatment with Increlex.

We plan to attend an oral discussion today from an ongoing study evaluating higher doses of growth hormone in patients with less-severe IGF-1 deficiency, a patient population that represents a growing battleground between Increlex/Iplex and growth hormone therapies. While higher doses of growth hormone improved height velocities, pediatric endocrinologists with whom we speak are sensitive to growth hormone’s escalating cost in this patient population and are likely to consider patients for either Increlex or Iplex.

Our May LCM survey indicated that Increlex was already being prescribed off-label 55% of the time in this patient population.

On Tuesday, during back-to-back oral presentations, investigators will present updates to Iplex’s 12-month study in severe primary IGF-1 deficiency and severe insulin resistance.

Maintain BUY rating and $4 target for INSM (applying a multiple of 6x to projected 2008 iPlex sales of $119 million, discounted two years at 25%, and including fully diluted shares of 120 million, we arrive at our 12-month price target of $4). We maintain our HOLD rating for TRCA.

Hallo, there is no news, dit is "before the news".

Sell on the news is overigens verkopen na een goed PB op een beetje top. Wel verwarrend al die engelse termen (on the bus, on top of the bus, hopon-hopoff bus).

Verwachtingen zijn (te) hoog gespannen. Voor de zoveelste keer; er komt GEEN nieuws. Er komt een update. Als er nieuws was, zou dit al naar buiten gebracht moeten worden op het moment dat het bekend is, dat kan je niet een beetje binneshuis houden tot een presentatie weereens langs komt.

Ik neem aan dat de update wel positieve berichten bevat en dat deze de verwachtingen van de afgelopen opkopende beleggers (waaronder ikzelf) waar kan maken.

Maar ik zie al die koppies alweer lichtrood aanlopen richting waanzinnige PB-en en torenhoge (koers-)verwachtingen.

Dan kan de update straks alleen nog maar tegenvallen (al neem ik aan dat die geheel in lijn is met de voorspellingen die eerder gemaakt zijn).

Laten we inderdaad maar naar augustus uitkijken als er echte verkoopcijfers liggen.

30-40 patients ? Lol, what a joke. I don't dare to do the math on this one but this is certainly not a revenue to be talking about a "commercial" company. So far the 'uptrend' we've been seeing. When will we finally break the 2,20's ? I think we've been waiting long enuf by now...

Wat opvalt in het stuk van Lazard, is dat ze niet de moeite hebben genomen om met INSM management te spreken...Het zou nog wel eens heel goed kunnen, dat INSM met een grote verrassing komt...Dat doen ze sowieso al, want er worden geen verkopen verwacht!

Het enige wat Lazard gedaan heeft is dat ze met enkele ped/endo's en industry ingewijden hebben gepraat en op basis daarvan een nummer hebben ge-extrapoleerd.

Toch benieuwd welke informatie INSM-management heeft prijs gegeven aan CEUT gisteravond en/of vanavond en wat wij daarvan morgen te weten komen.
