Germany's regulator removes LNG connection line from grid expansion plan in Brunsbuettel

Reuters quoted Germany's network regulator as saying that a line to connect a planned German terminal for liquefied natural gas in Brunsbuettel to the bigger gas grid needs to be build by the project company, not the gas grid operator. The Bundesnetzagentur, following the completion of its EUR 6.9 billion gas network expansion plan for 2018-2028, said the move did not preempt a decision on whether the planned terminal was needed or could be realised.

German LNG Terminal, a joint venture of gas network operator Gasunie, tank storage provider Oiltanking, and storage tank company Vopak, plans to make an investment decision on the Brunsbuettel terminal next year.

China's LNG imports hit record in November 2018

China's liquefied natural gas imports hit record levels in November, customs data showed, with traders rushing to buy the fuel as households and businesses crank up their heating over the freezing winter months. LNG imports totaled 5.99 million tonnes in November, up 48.5 percent from the same month last year, data from the General Administration of Customs showed. That surpassed the previous record of 5.18 million tonnes hit in January this year. China has been pushing to switch parts of the country to gas for heating, shifting away from coal as it pushes to clean up its environment.

For the first 11 months of 2018, LNG imports were up 43.6 percent from a year earlier to 47.52 million tonnes, on track to beat 2017's annual record of 38.13 million tonnes.

Meanwhile, Chinese exports of gasoline and diesel fell in November from the year before, the data showed, with local refiners reducing production as profit-margins fall.

SHI to build two LNG carriers for about KRW 426 billion

Samsung Heavy Industries said that it has won a new order to build two liquefied natural gas carriers for about KRW 426 billion. SHI's new order total for 2018 now stands at 48 vessels and 6.1 billion USD. which include 17 LNG carriers, 13 containerships, 15 tankers, and 3 special purpose ships.

Korean shipbuilders on a roll as LNG tanker orders keep coming

With the year of 2018 coming to an end, Korean shipbuilders are continuing to win orders for LNG tankers from overseas shipping companies. Greek shipping company Cardiff Gas has recently ordered two LNG carriers to Hyundai Heavy Industries Group and one to Samsung Heavy Industries. The orders for LNG carriers placed by Cardiff Gas this year are estimated at seven units for Hyundai Heavy Industries Group and four units for Samsung Heavy Industries. Nine of them already are set to be leased to large energy companies. In the Korean shipbuilding industry, many experts expect that increasing demand for LNG will continue to boost demand for LNG tankers. LNG tanker orders increased from 10 units in 2016 and 2017 to 69 units by December this year, with 60 of them placed with three Korean shipbuilders. Virtually, Korean shipbuilders swept orders for LNG carriers.

Clarkson, a British shipbuilding and shipping analysis organization, predicted that more than 60 LNG carriers would be ordered from next year to 2027. Shipping freight rates are also on the rise. The average freight rate for LNG carriers, which had stood at USD 30,000 to USD 40,000 from 2015 to last year, began to rise from the fourth quarter of last year and soared to USD 82,000 in the third quarter of this year.

The Hyundai Heavy Industries Group has landed orders for a total of 153 ships worth USD 13.3 billion so far this year, surpassing its shipbuilding target of USD 13.2 billion for this year. By ship types, the shipbuilding company won 40 orders (25 LNG carriers and 15 LPG carriers) in the gas tanker sector where it has unparalleled competitiveness.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering also recently landed an order for an LNG carrier, surpassing 90% of its order receipt target. This year, the shipbuilder won orders for 17 LNG carriers, the third largest in its history, following 37 units in 2014 and 19 units in 2004.

World's largest floating LNG platform starts production in Australia - Shell

Reuters, citing Royal Dutch Shell, it has begun output at its Prelude floating liquefied natural gas facility in Australia, the world's largest floating production structure and the last of a wave of eight LNG projects built in the country over the last decade. Though the project started up later and cost more than originally estimated, it is expected to further cement Australia's lead as the world's biggest LNG exporter, after the country took the crown in November.

In a statement, Shell said wells have now been opened at the Prelude facility, located 475 kilometres north-north east of Broome in western Australia. This means Prelude has now entered start-up and ramp-up, the initial phase of production where gas and condensate - which is an ultra-light form of crude oil - is produced and moved through the facility.

Prelude is expected to have an annual LNG production capacity of 3.6 million tonnes, 1.3 million tonnes a year of condensate and 400,000 tonnes a year of liquefied petroleum gas. Shell did not immediately respond to a Reuters query on when first LNG will be exported from the facility, but analysts estimate exports to start by early next year, with condensates likely to start first.

Mr Saul Kavonic, energy analyst at Credit Suisse in Sydney, said that "First LNG cargo is still several weeks assuming all proceeds as planned, but the timing of first cargo and pace of ramp-up is still subject to technical risk. Given Prelude's novelty, geographic conditions and challenges, it may be subject to greater risk to timeline from wellhead production to first cargo than an average LNG project. We expect Shell to seek to get it done right, rather than rush things."

The power plant to be established by wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Ltd NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam at cost of INR 387.80 crore in 18 months is expected to significantly improve the quality of life of the residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and give a boost to economic development in the area.”

The scheme includes installation and commissioning of 99 induction cook stoves with associated accessories like one kW PV modules, lithium-ion battery, power inverter, charge controller etc.

Sovcomflot orders 3 LNG-fuelled tankers from Zvezda shipyard

Sovcomflot placed an order at Zvezda shipbuilding complex for construction of three new generation product carriers that use cleaner-burning LNG fuel as their primary fuel. Three MR-class vessels will have a deadweight of 51,000 tonnes each. They will transport petroleum products and gas condensate and will be chartered to Novatek under long-term time charter agreements. Each tanker will have an ice class of 1B, enabling safe operations in areas with challenging ice conditions, including the Baltic.

Using LNG fuel enables to significantly reduce emissions. Compared to engines burning standard marine fuels, LNG-powered engines release 27 per cent less Carbon Dioxide (CO2), 85 per cent less Nitrogen Oxide (NOx), 100 per cent less Sulphur Oxides (SOx), and 100 per cent less particulate matter.

The technical specification of the tankers reflects the international regulatory limits on sulphur, nitrogen and greenhouse gas emissions, which will come into effect in 2020.

South Korean shipbuilders to benefit from LNG ship orders in 2019

Yonhap reported that South Korean shipbuilders are expected to continue to benefit from a growing number of liquefied natural gas ship orders this year, people in the industry said. In 2019, the world’s overall LNG ship orders are likely to reach 69, rising from 65 in 2018 and 17 in 2017, according to data compiled by the London-based shipping group Clarkson Research.

A shipbuilding official said that rising demand for LNG ships is partly due to China’s policy to encourage businesses to use LNG, an eco-friendly fuel.

Helped by robust LNG ship orders, South Korea’s three biggest shipbuilders — Hyundai Heavy Industries Co, Samsung Heavy Industries Co. and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co — achieved their order targets for 2018.

The companies said that Hyundai Heavy received USD 13.3 billion worth of orders last year, higher than its goal of USD 1.32 billion. Samsung Heavy bagged USD 5.7 billion worth of orders, exceeding its target of USD 5.1 billion. Daewoo Shipbuilding earned $6.81 billion in orders, higher than its target of USD 6.6 billion.

CNOOC & CNPC LNG terminals receive record amount of gas in 2018

Reuters quoted CNOOC as saying that a liquefied natural gas import terminal in east China's Zhejiang province operated by China National Offshore Oil Corp, or CNOOC, received 52 percent more of the super-chilled fuel in 2018 versus a year earlier. CNOOC's Zhejiang LNG terminal, in the coastal city of Ningbo, discharged 80 shipments last year, with a total volume of 5.47 million tonnes.

Parent company CNPC said on its news portal, PetroChina's Rudong terminal, in eastern Jiangsu province, received 85 tankers last year for a total 6.5 million tonnes of the fuel, operating the import facility at full rates.

CNPC said, without giving a comparison, in 2018, PetroChina's three major receiving terminals - Tangshan, Dalian and Rudong - received a record total volume of 15 million tonnes of LNG.

China, the world's second-largest LNG buyer after Japan, imported a record 47.52 million tonnes of LNG in the first 11 months of the year, up 43.6 percent from a year earlier, as another over 3 million homes switched to gas for heating this winter to help combat pollution.

Record LNG capacity to get green light in 2019 amid strong demand - WoodMac

Reuters reported that a record amount of liquefied natural gas production is expected to get the green light in 2019 amid strong global demand, especially from China, analysts said. A final investment decision could be taken on more than 60 million tonnes per annum of LNG capacity this year, well above the previous record of about 45 million tonnes in 2005 and triple last year's 21 million tonnes, Wood Mackenzie's research director for global gas and LNG, Mr Giles Farrer, said.

The new capacity would bulk out the pipeline of gas set to come on stream in coming years, adding to the more than 320 million tonnes of LNG shipped globally in 2018, according to shipping data in Refinitiv's Eikon.

Mr Farrer said that "If you have seen the potential demand for LNG, you have seen costs where they are now that is motivating companies to push projects forward and motivating buyers to come forward to support some of these projects."

Frontrunners this year include the USD 27 billion Arctic LNG 2 project by Russia's Novatek, at least one project in Mozambique and three in the United States, Woodmac said in a report to its clients. The three potential U.S. projects are Qatar Petroleum's Golden Pass joint-venture with Exxon Mobil Corp and ConocoPhillips, Venture Global LNG's Calcasieu Pass project, and Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass train 6, the consultancy said.

WoodMac said that Canada's Woodfibre LNG project, developed by Singapore-based Pacific Oil and Gas, may also get the go-ahead in 2019. New projects typically take several years to develop, with many of those under consideration likely to be ready to ship gas in the early 2020s if approved.

Royal Dutch Shell completes acquisition of Total's 26% stake in Hazira LNG

IANS reported that Royal Dutch Shell on Wednesday said it has completed the acquisition of French oil major Total SA's 26% stake in the company that operates 5 million tonnes per annum-Hazira LNG terminal in Gujarat. It said "Shell Gas BV, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell plc, announced that it has completed acquisition of 26% equity interest in the Hazira LNG and Port venture in India from Total Gaz Electricité Holdings France (Total). This brings Shell's equity interest in the venture to 100%.”

It, however, did not reveal the deal size.

Shell had in August 2018 announced plans to buy Total's stake in Hazira LNG and Port venture which comprises of two companies - Hazira LNG that operates an LNG regasification terminal in Gujarat and Hazira Port, which manages a direct berthing multi-cargo port at Hazira.

Wartsila commence site work for 378 MW Power Plant in El Salvador

The technology group Wärtsilä commenced site work for a new 378 MW power plant being supplied on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract in El Salvador. This facility, ordered by Energía del Pacífico, will be the largest and most efficient power plant in El Salvador, and one of the first in Central America to be fired by liquefied natural gas. The installation will feed electricity to the national grid. A dedicated floating LNG import terminal will be built at the same location.

This new terminal represents an important addition to El Salvador’s energy infrastructure with clean, cheaper, and efficient power generation in the country. Today, close to 50 percent of the 1600 MW generation capacity in El Salvador is based on oil fuel. The new environmentally friendly Wärtsilä Smart Power Generation plant will, thanks to the high efficiency level of the Wärtsilä 50SG engine, serve to lower the price of electricity locally. Furthermore, air quality will be improved since LNG fuel produces 30 percent less carbon emissions, and 99 percent less sulphur dioxide emissions, than conventional oil fuel.

The power plant will operate on nineteen Wärtsilä 50SG engines and a steam turbine in combined cycle, reaching a net plant efficiency of close to 50 percent. Wärtsilä’s DryFlexicycle technology, which consumes zero cooling water, will be employed thereby enhancing even further the sustainability of the project. Wärtsilä will also provide operation and maintenance services.

Mr Alejandro Alle, Managing Director of Energía del Pacífico said that “This project marks an important milestone in the development of the country’s energy mix by utilising clean natural gas, and through the highly reliable, efficient, and flexible power offered by Wärtsilä’s multi-unit Flexicycle solution.”

Mr Sampo Suvisaari, Regional Director, Latin America North and the Caribbean, Wärtsilä Energy Business said that “The starting of this project is the result of many years of work. The Wärtsilä plant will bring important benefits to El Salvador by enabling clean, efficient, and flexible power generation that will, because of its fast-starting capability, complement and facilitate increasing amounts of renewable energy in the system.”

Torrent Power seeks 5 LNG cargoes for 2019 - Report

Reuters, citing two industry sources, reported that Torrent Power is seeking five liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes for delivery in 2019. One source said that “It is seeking cargoes for delivery over February, May, July, October and December. The tender closed on January 9 and is valid until January 11. The February cargo will be bought at a fixed price while the others will be linked to Brent oil prices.”

Torrent Power distributes electricity to over 3 million customers every year in India.

Phoenix Petroleum gets green light for Philippines' first LNG terminal

Reuters reported that Phoenix Petroleum gets green light for Philippines' first LNG terminal MANILA: Philippines firm Phoenix Petroleum said that it has won government approval to build the country's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in partnership with China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC). Phoenix, a fuel retailer, said it plans to break ground this year for the LNG regasification and receiving terminal south of the capital Manila, in a country that still relies heavily on coal as a fuel source.

The company said its Tanglawan Philippine LNG Inc unit, which will undertake the project, is partnering with a unit of CNOOC Gas and Power Group Co. Ltd., China's largest LNG importer and terminal operator.

The LNG facility is expected to have a capacity of 2.2 million tonnes per year, with commercial operations targeted to start by 2023, Phoenix said in a regulatory filing.

Russia Looks To Build ‘LNG Island’ To Supply Booming Asian Market

While Russia’s gas giant Gazprom is working to complete the Power of Siberia gas pipeline expected to begin delivering gas to China in December 2019, another Russian company—the country’s biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer Novatek—is looking to boost LNG supply to the growing Asian market.
While it continues to keep more than a third of the European gas market with pipeline gas supply, Russia is also increasingly looking east and aiming to take a larger portion of the booming Asian LNG demand, led by China.

Novatek has one producing LNG plant, Yamal, and aims to reach a final investment decision (FID) on another one, Arctic LNG 2, this year.

The Russian firm has recently signed a preliminary agreement with Japan’s Saibu Gas, under which the companies will consider potential cooperation in entering the end-consumer LNG market in Asia. Novatek will optimize its LNG supplies to the Asia-Pacific region by using Saibu Gas’s Hibiki LNG terminal in Japan.
“The Asia-Pacific region is a priority destination for NOVATEK’s LNG projects. Our ability to use the Hibiki terminal will help diversify our customer base and increase the flexibility of deliveries to the premium LNG markets,” Novatek’s First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board Lev Feodosyev said last month.

Novatek also plans to build, with the support of Russia’s government, a marine LNG transshipment complex in the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia’s Far East, close to the Asian markets.

“The construction of the Kamchatka transshipment complex will increase the efficiency of LNG deliveries from the Arctic zone by optimizing transport logistics,” Novatek’s Chairman of the Management Board, Leonid Mikhelson, said last September.

“We plan to create a Russian LNG hub for shipments to consumers in the Asia-Pacific region. This investment will contribute to the development of the Northern Sea Route allowing for the optimal use of the existing Arctic tanker fleet,” Mikhelson noted.

Japan’s Saibu Gas, for its part, said this week that it would consider building two additional LNG tanks and upgrade its re-exporting capability.
Thanks to LNG storage hubs closer to Asian markets, Novatek could cut shipping costs and better meet spot demand in Asia, China in particular, according to analysts who spoke to Bloomberg.

“Given its LNG sources are very far from Asia, storage and re-loading will enable it to capture shorter-term arbitrage opportunities,” Wood Mackenzie analyst Nicholas Browne told Bloomberg.

Russia’s LNG supply focus on Asian markets is not surprising at all, considering that natural gas demand in Asia, and China specifically, will continue to grow.
China’s natural gas imports by pipeline and as LNG hit another record in December 2018 amid the Chinese government’s push to have millions of households switch from coal to natural gas for heating. Total natural gas imports for full-year 2018 soared by nearly 32 percent annually to 90.39 million tons, solidifying China’s position as the world’s biggest importer of the fuel.
Novatek has yet to make the FID on the US$27-billion Arctic LNG 2 project, but analysts widely expect that it will reach FID this year.

France’s Total, a partner in the operating Yamal LNG project with 20 percent, expanded last year its partnership with Novatek, and the French group now has the opportunity to buy a 10-15-percent direct interest in Arctic LNG 2.
Reports have it that various other potential partners, including Saudi Aramco, are vying for a stake in Arctic LNG 2.

According to Wood Mackenzie, Novatek will aim to reach FID on Arctic LNG 2 this year, and at least one new investor will join the project in 2019. The LNG project in Russia is one of the frontrunners to reach FID this year, alongside one LNG project in Mozambique, Golden Pass, Calcasieu Pass, and Sabine Pass Train 6 in the United States in what could be a record year for LNG project approvals, WoodMac says.

While keeping a grip on the European gas market, Russia looks to boost LNG deliveries to the growing Asian market with storage hubs close to end-users to reduce freight costs and increase flexibility in deliveries.

Pakistan to seek gas payment deal with Qatar - Report

The Tribune newspaper, quoting Petroleum Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan, reported that Pakistan will seek a credit facility for liquefied natural gas payments from Qatar as part of efforts to ease its severe balance of payments crisis. The paper quoted the minister as saying Prime Minister Imran Khan would seek a price cut on Pakistan's existing LNG deal with Qatar as well as a one-year credit facility, enabling it to defer payments for vital gas supplies. Pakistan faces a severe strain on its balance of payments, with a current account deficit of around 5.9% of gross domestic product and foreign exchange reserves sufficient only to cover around two months' of import payments.

If agreed, an LNG credit facility with Qatar would follow similar agreements enabling deferred payments on oil supplies from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which have both agreed USD 3 billion facilities with Pakistan.

The government has been talking to the International Monetary Fund about a possible bailout and has stepped up efforts to raise funds from friendly Arab nations as well as China. At the same time, Pakistan is facing a serious energy crisis with repeated blackouts and gas supply outages that led to the sacking of the heads of two of the country's main gas distribution utilities last week.

Bangladesh's second LNG terminal to start in March

Bangladesh's second liquefied natural gas terminal is expected to start operations in mid-March though domestic pipeline constraints means it will be unable to fully supply gas demand to the country's capital Dhaka. Summit Corp, a subsidiary of Bangladesh's Summit Holdings, and partner Mitsubishi Corp are expected to start operations at their floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) off the country's coast by the middle of March and ahead of schedule

However, construction delays on a pipeline that will carry regasifed gas from the coastal city of Chattogram, near where the FSRU will be anchored, to Dhaka means that the vessel will not be fully utilised. Until the pipeline is fully connected, the FSRU will handle about 300 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of gas which will be supplied to the Chattogram area, the source said. The ship can regasify up to 500 mmcfd of LNG. Once the pipeline is completed, state-owned energy company Petrobangla will be able to send up to 1,000 mmcfd from both the Summit FSRU and a vessel operated by US company Excelerate that started up in August.

Russische enclave Kaliningrad toneel van ‘koude gasoorlog’

Het Kremlin en het Russische staatsgasbedrijf Gazprom ontkennen routineus dat gas een geopolitiek wapen is waarmee ze andere landen onder druk kunnen zetten. Maar bij de opening van een Russische terminal voor vloeibaar gas in Kaliningrad heeft de topman van Gazprom deze week impliciet toegegeven dat dit wel degelijk het geval is.

De terminal stelt Gazprom in staat om de tussen Polen en Litouwen ingeklemde enclave Kaliningrad vanaf zee te voorzien van ‘liquid natural gas’, oftewel lng. Tot nu toe liep het gas via een pijpleiding door Wit-Rusland en Litouwen. Gazprom-baas Aleksej Miller suggereerde zondag op de Russische staatstelevisie dat Litouwen deze leiding had kunnen afsluiten en Kaliningrad onder druk had kunnen zetten. Die kans is toegenomen omdat Litouwen een eigen lng-terminal aan zee heeft aangelegd. ‘Litouwen kan sindsdien via land en via zee gas invoeren’, erkende hij.

Met zijn uitspraken zei Miller impliciet dat Rusland nu hetzelfde met Litouwen kan doen. Hij voegde er namelijk aan toe president Vladimir Poetin niet langer wilde dat Rusland gas via een Navo-lidstaat naar eigen burgers in Kaliningrad zou transporteren. Die wens heeft de onderhandelingspositie ten aanzien van Gazprom flink versterkt, zei Miller. Met een gasterminal in Kaliningrad kan Rusland de pijplijn naar Litouwen afsluiten en daarmee het land voor een deel gas ontzeggen. ‘De balans is daardoor volledig hersteld’, zei Miller.

Gas bunkeren
Poetin vloog vorige week naar Kaliningrad om de lng terminal persoonlijk in werking te stellen. De ‘terminal’ is in feite een gastanker die bij Sint-Petersburg vloeibaar gas kan bunkeren, om het vervolgens in Kaliningrad aan wal te pompen.

Met de nieuwe terminal kijkt Rusland een trucje af van Litouwen, dat in 2015 een vergelijkbare installatie bouwde in de havenstad Klaipeda. Daarmee was het land niet langer voor 100% van zijn gas afhankelijk van Moskou. De gasprijzen in Litouwen — lang de hoogste van Europa - duikelden daarna met meer dan 20% omdat Gazprom niet langer een monopolie had. Er lopen momenteel geen gasleidingen tussen de Baltische landen en de rest van Europa.

Russisch gas ligt gevoelig in Europa, omdat Moskou ervan wordt verdacht het te gebruiken als een politiek drukmiddel. In het verleden heeft Rusland al meerdere keren de gaskraan dichtgedraaid of gedreigd dat te doen, als het zijn zin niet kreeg.

Zo bestaat daarom bij Europese landen (de voormalige Sovjet-satellieten Polen en de Baltische landen voorop) weerzin tegen de aanleg van Nord Stream 2, een tweede pijpleiding die vanuit Rusland over de bodem van de Baltische zee naar Duitsland loopt. Deze route omzeilt niet alleen de Baltische landen en Polen, maar ook Oekraïne. De onderzeese leidingen maken het voor Moskou mogelijk om de gastoevoer naar Oekraïne stil te leggen, terwijl het klanten in Duitsland kan blijven bedienen.

Het Litouwse ministerie van Energie toont zich niet onder de indruk van Millers uitspraken. ‘Met onze terminal konden juist wij ontsnappen uit Ruslands energievalstrik’, zegt woordvoerder Aurelija Vernickaite. ‘Daar plukken alle Baltische consumenten de vruchten van.’

Het zuidelijkste Baltische land importeert gemiddeld tussen 40% en 55% van zijn gasconsumptie via de lng-terminal, die nog niet op volle capaciteit draait. De rest komt nog steeds uit Rusland. ‘In geval van nood’, zo verzekert Vernickaite, ‘kunnen we gas importeren via Letland.’ Binnenkort verliest Rusland echter ook deze troefkaart, doordat Litouwen dit jaar een gasleiding naar Polen wil gaan bouwen.

Australian LNG exports hit new high in 2018 - EnergyQuest

Gas Today reported that according to the latest EnergyQuest report, Australian LNG exports have risen 23% from the previous year. Australian exports reached 69.5 million tonne in 2018, up from 56.5 million tonne in 2017, generating estimated revenue of AUD 43.3 billion. This 67% revenue increase was attributed to higher export volumes and increased oil prices, keeping LNG as Australia’s third largest export in 2018 after coal and iron ore. The substantial increase in export volume was attributed to the start-up of INPEX’s Ichthys project and the continued good performance of the Wheatstone development in Western Australia.

Japan was still the largest importer of Australian LNG, importing 29.8 million tonne in 2018, an 11.8% increase since 2017. China, the second-largest importer, increased imports by 34.9% to 23.5 million tonne.

EnergyQuest expects LNG exports to increase again in 2019 with the start up of Shell’s Prelude project, and the ramping up of Ichthys and Wheatstone to full capacity.

Uniper and Titan LNG to cooperate boosting LNG Wilhelmshaven Terminal functionality

Uniper SE and the Dutch Titan LNG signed a Memorandum of Understanding to accelerate the growth of Liquified Natural Gas as a fuel in the downstream markets for industry, road fuel and shipping fuel in Germany. The parties are planning to develop a user-friendly technical interface and commercial products for small-scale LNG players from the Wilhelmshaven Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) for LNG. The terminal in Wilhelmshaven will enable the loading of small LNG seagoing vessels and barges. In addition, several truck loading bays are planned to enable the onward transport of LNG by road.

The distribution of LNG by truck from Wilhelmshaven is seen as an important impulse for the establishment of LNG as truck fuel. Numerous LNG filling stations are currently under construction in Germany. Compared to diesel, LNG will significantly reduce CO2 emissions. In addition, no particles will be emitted and nitrogen and sulfur oxide emissions will be greatly reduced. The German Federal Government supports logistics companies with subsidies and the toll-free use of German roads for LNG-powered trucks.

With its proximity to the Jade Weser Port, Bremerhaven and the German Bight, Wilhelmshaven is a very suitable location to supply LNG for all downstream markets and in particular for marine fuels. The market for so-called small-scale LNG is gaining in importance due to its proven economic benefits. As a fuel, LNG already meets the more stringent environmental requirements for ocean shipping.
