LogicaCMG Appoints Head of Spatial Strategy
Tuesday, 25 September 2007
LogicaCMG, a major international force in IT and business services, has announced the appointment of Sean Newell as its Head of Spatial Strategy based in Sydney.
As a member of LogicaCMG’s Spatial Practice, Newell will be responsible for developing strategies that help LogicaCMG customers maximise the advantage of spatial data. Typically, these organisations are in the telecommunications, energy, government, retail and logistics sectors and use spatially-enabled information in their business processes for support planning, design and operational decision making.
Newell joins LogicaCMG with 16 years’ industry experience gained in both Australia and the UK. Most recently, he worked with a venture capitalist firm focused on fostering spatially-based early stage businesses. Previously, he managed his own consultancy focused on the delivery of geo-spatial systems to major customers including Deutsche Telekom, Copenhagen Energy, Irish Gas and General Electric.
Prior, he was one of the first employees of geospatial application specialist, Small World Systems, where he helped grow the company to more than 800 employees, established the UK-headquartered company’s operations in the US and was appointed Global Utilities Marketing Manager. He originally graduated with a Masters degree in Engineering from Cambridge University in the UK.
LogicaCMG has more than 25 years of GIS integration experience and is independent of “off-the-shelf” GIS vendors. The company has worked closely with vendors of all major GIS packages to deliver systems which meet specific customer requirements. In Australia, LogicaCMG has provided spatial strategy solutions to organisations, including the Victorian Department of Education and Training, the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment, and PSMA Australia Limited, formerly known as Public Sector Mapping Agencies. The company is also currently supporting GIS applications in the local utility and energy sector.
“LogicaCMG is an expert in spatial data production. Recent innovations such as Google Earth have brought geo-spatial information systems (GIS) into mainstream operational strategy. We look forward to Sean and the spatial team building on our delivery capability in this space and creating an Australian-based centre for innovation and excellence,” said Colin Holgate, CEO, LogicaCMG.
