Chinese savior of Saab?
by TimR on October 21, 2011
There are a lot of reporters who claim that Victor Muller has turned down an offer that would Save Saab? So what exactly is that offer? Well Youngman and Pang Da is said to be willing to buy 100% of Saab and in such getting rid of the current owner SWAN and also saving Saab.
Well, is a Chinese Saab really a Saved Saab? I question that… The media say, look at Volvo, what a great deal that was. Yes, well, are they really so sure? Right now Geely is building an engine-manufacturing plant that is big enough to supply all of future volvo plus a lot more with engines. They are on top of that, putting up no less than three car-manufacturing plants in China in a very swift phase, to build a hugh amount of cars in the future.
What happens when these plants are up and running and are producing cars, well we might see that the Swedish and Dutch Volvo factories would not be required anymore. What about the old engine-manufacturing plant in Sweden? The chinese are able to produce everything much cheeper than we are in Europe and in the end its money that talks!
I believe that is exactly what would happen with Saab. Is Youngman really interested in running a Saab factory in Sweden or would they rather implement the technology and products into their own plant which is in need for new products to produce?
I sort of look at this whole thing like a marriage, but a few days before the ceremony the other part (chinese) is unfaithful, now its up to them to decide if they are willing to go through with the ceremony and risk a unhappy marriage, or if they should go their separate ways. What has happened now is that the betrayed partner (Saab) has found someone else (NSC)…
A chinese Saab might not be a Saved Saab?
