BASF, AM Green sign MoU on low-carbon chemicals, green ammonia offtake

German chemicals group BASF SE (ETR:BAS) and India’s AM Green on Monday unveiled a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to study and develop opportunities for low-carbon chemicals produced with renewable energy in India.

The partnership also involves a non-binding letter of intent for the offtake of 100,000 tonnes of ammonia a year from AM Green plants across India. The ammonia will be produced using renewable energy including energy from pumped storage projects.

China's electrolyser manufacturing capacity may hit 50 GW by 2030 - IEA

China leads global electrolyser manufacturing with a capacity of 15 GW at the end of 2023, making up 60% of the world’s total, according to a recent report by the International Energy Agency (IEA).

By 2030, based on announced projects, China’s capacity could reach 50 GW, with 55% of that already in operation or having achieved final investment decision (FID).

South Australia’s Whyalla green hydrogen hub secures enviro nod

South Australia’s Hydrogen Jobs Plan project for a green hydrogen hub near Whyalla with an electrolyser capacity of 250 MW has secured clearance under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).

The EPBC Act nod, which followed a development approval obtained in July, was granted with specific conditions, among others, requiring the project to stay within designated boundaries and restrict clearing within no more than 89.4 hectares of Western Grasswren (Gawler Ranges) habitat.

1 uur geleden in Financieel

Uniper delays EUR 8bn investment plan amid weak hydrogen demand

German energy group Uniper SE (ETR:UN01) will need more time to reach the target of investing around EUR 8 billion (USD 8.63bn) in its green transformation due to low demand for green hydrogen from customers and slowly developing regulatory framework.

“As of today, there are few major customers looking for green hydrogen and interested in entering into corresponding supply contracts,” Uniper said in its third-quarter financial statement.

Construction of Neom green hydrogen plant is 60% complete

Construction work on the 2.2-GW Neom green hydrogen plant in northwestern Saudi Arabia is 60% complete and the facility is on track to go onstream at the end of 2026 as planned, co-shareholder Air Products (NYSE:APD) said on Thursday.

The US industrial gases company, which is the sole off-taker of the ammonia from the plant under an exclusive 30-year supply agreement, has already secured a take-or-pay commitment with off-takers for about 35% of the output.

Air Products pulls out of green hydrogen JV project in Texas

US industrial gases company Air Products (NYSE:APD) has given up on a USD-4.5-billion (EUR 4.2bn) green hydrogen joint venture project in Texas and has sold the development rights to its partner in the project, according to the company’s quarterly results presentation.

The project, announced in late 2022, was a joint venture with The AES Corporation (NYSE:AES).

Air Products said last week that the project never reached final investment decision (FID). The company is not moving forward with it as it does not meet its established guidelines for new, low-carbon projects.

FuelCell gaat verder reorganiseren
15-nov-2024 15:24

2 uur geleden in Financieel

Spanish researchers develop tech to convert textile waste into hydrogen

The Energy Technological Institute (ITE), a Valencia, Spain-based non-profit research and development association, is leading an innovative renewable hydrogen project called Tex2Energy, designed to address the growing problem of non-recyclable textile waste generated by the fashion industry.

As the ITE explained, Tex2Energy employs a thermochemical process to convert complex textile waste into synthesis gas, which is rich in hydrogen. This hydrogen is then utilised in a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) to generate electricity.
