George: Comments on Aubert and Duval and progress there?
Peter Pascali: With respect to Aubert and Duval and processing powders, what is key to understand and something we did not know at the beginning, I have actually conveyed it to the marketplace in various press releases is once you get an order from an OEM (e.g. Aubert and Duval), the production line is locked down, you cannot change your production line, you cannot move that piece of equipment even two inches.
Given the improvements we have made to the process, we have decreased capital costs, and we’ve increased production rates to unheard of levels, I think we announced something north of 25 kg/h, where others in the marketplace, as far as we know, have only pressed released 12-13 kg/h, where we can do that 25 kg/h with our eyes closed, and do it cheaper per kg than the older rates.
That was so significant an advancement that we wanted to incorporate that into the process before it was locked down. That took some time, and obviously that was not something that we had anticipated before getting into the relationship with Aubert and Duval. Once everyone realized the implications to the bottom line, everyone agreed, let us get this right.
We have had OEM’s come to our facility and look at what we are doing, and they are extremely, extremely impressed, they haven’t seen anything like it [well they claim they haven’t seen anything like it], so as we are now putting the final touches on the production line, we expect that will be coming front and center in terms of events we can press release in short order.
George: That hasn’t kicked in, in terms of numbers (revenues) yet?
Peter Pascali: Absolutely not, hasn’t at all.
George: You have North American OEM, 3D printing side is going so well, also have relationship there, what is status?
Peter Pascali: They are just waiting for us to finish off our production line, they’ve mentioned to us they want us to be one of their suppliers.
Sometimes what happens is you want to continue going down certain path, whole world wants you to, then all of a sudden you can see making a particular improvement, and so it delays things, and I can see how CEOs would not want to delay things as to disappoint, but the fact of matter is, you’re going to be a hell of a lot better off, materially better off, and sometimes it takes a little bit of understanding from everybody, even from the OEM’s who were originally very excited, they decided they wanted to wait, but it was the best thing we could have ever done.
