Imtech Marine has announced a significant investment to boost the service it provides its superyacht customers, with the expansion of its global Ku-band VSAT network to provide additional coverage in Europe.
This expansion comprises the addition of the Eutelsat 10A satellite to the network, alongside the existing Telstar 12 satellite and the Intelsat 21, and will provide a boost in connectivity for vessels operating in Europe. Imtech claims the additional beam will reduce dropouts caused by antenna obstruction.
In response to questions posed by SuperyachtNews.com, Imtech Marine explained that this was, in fact, an extension of its service in recognition of, ‘the demand of yachts owners…to have continuous Internet access on board.’
Imtech’s Ku-band network is based on its iDirect network, and is run through its own land earth stations, with multi-year agreements with the satellite operators. ‘We offer total solutions [for] hardware, airtime, value-added services and installation to the yachting market via our more than 100 offices around the world. ‘
