TomTom Co-founder Corinne Vigreux has told Wearable that she was ‘flattered’ by Apple’s focus on fitness during the company’s recent product showcase for the iPhone 7, AirPods and Apple Watch Series 2.
She highlighted the similarities between Apple’s new smartwatch and TomTom’s own Runner, saying “It’s interesting to see Apple thinks the same thing as us,”
“We’re thinking in the same way as far as this market is concerned. They are also a lot more expensive, so that reassures me as well.”
She also highlighted the Apple’s collaboration with Nike and noted “Tim Cook sits on the Nike board, so that kind of makes sense.”
“Nike has been struggling with hardware, that’s been one of the issues they’ve had. Sports technology will help the world of sport and I think that collaboration is not completely unexpected.”
Vigreux reiterated TomTom’s promise to bring smartphone notifications to its line of sports watches and lack of interest in a fully blown smartphone, saying “there’s a lot of people there, I don’t think we can add value.”
“I want to do something that’s unique and where we can add value.”
