U.S. stocks appeared poised for a sharp pullback at the open Thursday, with index futures tracking tech shares and blue chips indicating that heavy selling pressure was building up.
Futures on the S&P 500 were losing 16.4 points at 1392.50 and were 16.2 points under fair value. Nasdaq 100 futures were diving 27.8 points to 1737.75 and were 27.5 points below fair value.
The action follows another selloff in Asia and suggests the effects of Tuesday's plunge in equities remains on the minds of investors. Tokyo's Nikkei lost 0.9%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng slid 1.6%, and China's Shanghai and Shenzhen 300 tumbled 2.8%.
Meanwhile, markets across Europe were mixed. Frankfurt's Xetra Dax was down 0.4% and the Paris Cac 40 fell 0.7%, but London's FTSE 100 was up 0.3%.
