Another bid is placed by a group, involving China’s NavInfo Co, Tencent Holdings Ltd and Swedish buyout firm EQT Partners AB, for the unit that might fetch about $4 billion, according to three people said who asked not to be mentioned because talks were private.
The people said that three U.S. private equity firms including Silver Lake Management, Hellman & Friedman and Thoma Bravo are also taking part in the bidding war. Microsoft Corp. has also intended to acquire a minority stake. They said that in comin two weeks, the next round of bids is due for the maps unit.
Baidu, China’s biggest search engine is teaming up with Uber, the San Francisco based taxi challenger, in oredr to avoid regulatory inquiry, according to one person. A group of German carmakers including BMW AG, Audi AG and Daimler AG has also aimed to acquire the business, according to two people.
Representatives for Apax, Audi, Baidu, Daimler, HERE, EQT, Hellman & Friedman, Nokia, Microsoft, Tencent, Thoma Bravo, Silver Lake and Uber refused to comment.
