Nu nog de 'interessante Shantha B. arrangements' er insmeren en factureren.

BTW SA betaalde 8 maal de waarde om Shantha B. te mogen binnenhalen en moet nog heel wat investeren om de ambities waar te maken.

Your valuation of Shantha was on the higher side given that a couple of years ago Merieux Alliance acquired it for a lot less.
On the higher side compared to what? I am not buying Shantha for the sales. I am buying it as a platform of capabilities. I am buying that future stream of sales from new vaccines. And the fact that this is probably the best manufacturing facility that you can find in the entire southern hemisphere for vaccines. So, quite honestly I think the price is actually more than reasonable. We can't look at this in the classic 'what's the multiple and EBIT here?' This is more like buying a biotech company.

Actually, it was a combination of the two. It IS a groundbreaking deal that shows the tremendous value of Crucell's pie-in-the-sky flu mAb research.
And it became very clear during the Q&A session that it is also a cash-raising deal for another take-over deal in the making.

Remember how excited Brus was to say that the royalties on Rabies was 39%?

When you get a good deal, you crow about it.

Brus did no crowing, he hung his head in shame every time someone asked about the details of the deal.

He is embarrassed that he gave the FlumAbs away in a Sanofi Flucell like deal, after he promised he wouldn't.

All because he has a hard-on to make some deal.

If your proud about the deal...you crow
If you are embarrassed...you hem and haw and never answer a direct question.

Double digits for FlumAbs? Yes, but just barely.
And Milestones...none until at least Phase IIb.

BEERSE - Het farmaconcern Johnson & Johnson ziet toekomst in griepbestrijding.
Het Amerikaanse farmaconcern Johnson & Johnson, dat het grootste Belgische farmabedrijf Janssen Pharmaceutica controleert, verschaft zich via een forse kapitaalinjectie bij het Nederlandse biotechbedrijf Crucell toegang tot de griepmarkt. De interesse voor Crucell komt door de vooruitgang die het bedrijf recent heeft geboekt bij het onderzoek naar een middel om alle virusstammen van de seizoensgebonden griep, het vogelgriepvirus en de huidige pandemie op korte termijn te bestrijden, stelt Paul Stoffels. Dat geneesmiddel is een alternatief voor het traditionele griepvaccin.

Stoffels is bij Johnson & Johnson wereldwijd verantwoordelijk voor het onderzoek en ontwikkeling van nieuwe geneesmiddelen. Het Amerikaanse farmaconcern pompt via zijn dochterbedrijf Ortho-McNeil Janssen Pharmaceuticals 301,8 miljoen euro in Crucell. Met een belang van 18 procent wordt het de grootste aandeelhouder van het biotechnologiebedrijf dat zich gespecialiseerd heeft in de ontwikkeling van vaccins en geneesmiddelen die gebaseerd zijn op antilichamen. Paul Stoffels bestempelt het als een belangrijke strategische deelneming.

De koers van Crucell steeg meteen na de bekendmaking van de strategische samenwerking met 9 procent, maar in de loop van de beurshandel kalfde de koerswinst volledig af. Crucell en Johnson&Johnson zijn overigens geen onbekenden voor elkaar. Ze zijn allebei aandeelhouder van het Belgische-Nederlandse biotechbedrijf Galapagos. Galapagos werd opgericht door Crucell en Tibotec, het Belgische biotechbedrijf dat opgericht werd door Paul Stoffels en dat nu een onderdeel is van Johnson&Johnson. Volgens de topman van het geneesmiddelenonderzoek bij de Amerikaanse farmagroep zijn de verwachtingen niet enkel hooggespannen omwille van de productie van een bestrijder van seizoensgebonden griepvirussen maar ook omdat gehoopt wordt om op langere termijn een universeel griepvaccin voor de preventie van griep te ontdekken en te ontwikkelen. Verder hoopt het ook antistoffen en/of vaccins tegen drie andere infectie- of niet-infectieziekten te vinden. Op welke ziekten de twee hun pijlen gaan richten, is nog niet bekend. Die zullen geselecteerd worden na verder verkennend onderzoek.

Dat Johnson & Johnson zich gaat toeleggen op griepbestrijding en zelfs de ontwikkeling van een universeel griepvirus is een opmerkelijke stap. De griepbestrijding was tot nog toe een terrein waarop een beperkt aantal farmabedrijven, waaronder Solvay, elk jaar opnieuw in een wedren zaten om al eerste een vaccin op de markt te brengen tegen een seizoensgebonden griepvirus.
